Kent will go into the new season next week on the back of a great showing against Glamorgan at Canterbury this week.

New signing Ben Harmison smashed an unbeaten 130 in the two day game that finished on Thursday afternoon with overseas signing Brendan Nash (74) joining him in a third wicket stand of 150 as Kent amassed 312 for 5 in reply to Glamorgan’s 263.

Glamorgan skipper Mark Wallace had hit 103 on Wednesday as Kent’s bowlers got a decent workout in the warm sunshine, which served as ideal preparation for next week’s Championship opener against Yorkshire at Headingley.

Kent’s Head Coach Jimmy Adams watched on as his side stepped up their fitness levels ahead of a gruelling six months ahead and he will have been pleased with what he has seen from his side so far.

The innings from Harmison opening the innings will give hime food for thought for next week and the former Durham batsman could now be the man to partner Rob Key at the top of the order.

Adams will have to decide which bowlers to pick from having confirmed Mark Davies’ signing from Durham, adding competition for places at Kent.

Kent line up: Scott Newman, Ben Harmison, Sam Northeast, Mike Powell, Brendan Nash, Darren Stevens, Geraint Jones, Simon Cook, Matt Coles, Charlie Shreck, Mark Davies.
